What is Embodied Coaching?
Embodied or Somatic based coaching is a transformative approach that helps individuals and teams integrate the wisdom of the body with the insights of the mind to create lasting change. Unlike traditional coaching methods, which often focus solely on cognitive strategies, embodiment coaching delves into the unconscious patterns and beliefs that shape how we relate to ourselves, others, our lives and our work. These patterns—often formed early in life—are stored in the body and can show up as habitual reactions, tension or even ways of holding ourselves that limit our potential.
How Does it Work?
Embodied coaching goes beyond talking about challenges. It involves working with the body to uncover and shift deeply ingrained patterns that drive our behaviours. By paying attention to physical sensations, posture, breath and movement, we can access these unconscious tendencies and transform them at the core. Working somatically enables individuals to not only understand their conditioned responses but also to develop new ways of being that are more aligned with their true selves.
A senior leader may unconsciously default to a ‘command and control’ leadership style, rooted in the deeply ingrained belief that they must always project strength and decisiveness. This belief is often held not just mentally, but in the body, showing up as a rigid posture, clenched jaw or shallow breathing.
A team member might struggle to speak up during meetings due to an unconscious belief that their voice isn’t valuable. This belief could manifest physically as a tightening in the throat or a hunched posture. Through coaching, they learn to recognise these sensations as signals of a conditioned tendency to shrink back.

This belief often shows up in the body as chronic tension, shallow breathing or a restless energy.
